RSS, sharing, saving, widgets & social media

On each page of this web page, you will find buttons that enable you to subscribe to our RSS feeds, share a page on Facebook, Twitter, or another social service, and assist you to send the page by email to a friend. We also prvide easy ways to display our feed on cultural events through a widget on your desktop, on your blog, or web site.

Subscribing to RSS feed

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" : it is a way to easily distribute a list of headlines, update notices, and sometimes content to a wide number of people. In the case of Alliance Française, we use it to distribute a feed of sponsored cultural events. And you can use it to aggregate, through your favorite RSS reader, those news with other news of your interest elsewhere on the web : that way, you don’t need to check again each specific web site to gather your news.

There are many ways for you to aggregate RSS feeds :

  • You may use an online service : just open a free account with Netvibes, iGoogle or RSS4you
    They are the best to gather RSS feeds, but also a number of widgets, podcasts, etc !

  • Using your browser : with the latest versions of Firefox, Internet Explorer and Opera, you can gather your RSS feeds directly in your browser, and access them as you do with your bookmarks.
  • you may use add ons for Firefox (see review or browse add ons) or Internet Explorer (search add ons : they will make this experience even more pleasurable.
  • You may use gadgets for your desktop on Windows or Mac, or using Google desktop gadgets.

  • You may download a dedicated software like RssReader or just use your current e-mail application : Outlook (see tutorial) or Thunderbid (see tutorial)

Here are then several methods to organize your feeds :
-* Most feed aggregators let you to browse categories and search feeds per keyword. Type "alliance française" in Netvibes or IGoogle and you will find us !

  • You may also indicate directly the address of the RSS feed you want to follow.

  • Web sites that propose feeds feature a small "RSS" icon that enable you to subscribe directly.
    Check our button at the bottom of this page !

For example, if you choose Netvibes, you may find us by typing "Alliance française" in the widget directory, and here is the result you will get (editing preferences to "detailed" or "magazine view", and opening directly on the site) :

Sharing the page on social media

Share the page with your favorite social networks : Facebook, Twitter and many more !

Saving the page

Also use the share & save button to bookmark your page with Google Bookmarks, Yahoo Bookmarks, another service or simply your current brower.

Emailing the page

The tool also makes it easy to send a reference to the page yo your friends, using Gmail, Yahoo Mail, GHotmail, or another mail client like Outlook or Thunderbird.

Syndicating content on a web site or blog

Finally, webmasters will find it easy to syndicate our content and display Bulawayo cultural events featured by Alliance Française, using this URL :

It proposes : 1> one fatured events 2> other upcoming events 3> last past events.

CMS usually make it easy for webmasters to include RSS feeds on their sites. If you use a CMS, check your documentation !
