Alliance Française encourages better knowledge and understanding of francophone and other cultures by supporting a wide variety of social and cultural events. With the help of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, CulturesFrance and in partnership with local institutions and companies, Alliance Française organizes cultural activities, including music concerts, theatre productions, fashion shows, book launches, film festivals, dance shows and art exhibitions. These all contribute to the creation of a diverse cultural exchange.
The name of Alliance Française de Harare has become synonymous with exceptional cultural and artistic events, many of which were a first in the city. Between 2002 and 2007 the association welcomed many seasoned artists to Zimbabwe, including Sally Nyolo, Lionel Loueke, Joe Nina, Oliver Mtukudzi, Chiwoniso, and Quator Parisii - to name but a few. Its strong involvement in the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) enabled Alliance Française to invite major artists such as Ismael Lo, Angelique Kidjo, Bonga, Rex Omar, Tiken ’Jah’ Fakoly, Kinobe & Soul Beat Africa.
Any Alliance Française event attracts a wide spectrum of the Harare community and we strive to cater for all tastes. In music, for example, the different genres that have been showcased range from classical concerts and modern jazz to popular music and music featuring traditional African instruments.

Big musical events are an ongoing activity... 2008 has seen the HIFA appearances of Dobet Gnahore, Nathalie Nathiembé, 3Ma, Blanc-Blanc, Thibault Cauvin, Freshly Ground and the Formula Band followed by Habanasax form Cuba in June.
