Alliance Française encourages better knowledge and understanding of francophone and other cultures by supporting a wide variety of social and cultural events. With the help of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Institut Français and in partnership with local institutions and companies, Alliance Française organizes cultural activities, including music concerts, theatre productions, fashion shows, book launches, film festivals, dance shows and art exhibitions. These all contribute to the creation of a diverse cultural exchange and the promotion of the arts in Zimbabwe.
The name of Alliance Française de Harare has become synonymous with exceptional cultural and artistic events. Any Alliance Française event attracts a wide spectrum of the Harare community and we strive to cater for all tastes. In music, for example, the different genres that have been showcased range from classical concerts and modern jazz to popular music and music featuring traditional African instruments.
The Alliance Française de Harare has hosted many seasoned artists, both local and international. Through involvement with the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA), the Alliance Française has also organized performances in Harare for many renowned musicians. Over the years of its existence in Harare, the Alliance Française has presented artists such as Oliver Mtukudzi, Ismael Lo, Laurent Coq, Papa Wemba and Youssou n’Dour.
